monophasic pill

All effective blister pills contain a constant amount of estrogen and progestin. The monophasic pill is the most common and slightly safer than the other types of pills. They contain 15 to 35 micrograms of estrogen.

three-phase pill

The three-step pill was developed to better mimic the normal hormonal changes during the cycle. One pill contains 30-40 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol. Either the amount of estrogen is increased in the second phase or a constant amount of estrogen remains in all phases. The amount of progestin is increased in the transition from the first to the second phase and from the second to the third phase. There are pills with phases of 6-5-10 days and with phases of 7-7-7 days.

multiphasic pill

The multiphasic pill contains 3, 2 or 1 mg of estradiol valeraate per tablet sequentially, with the tablets of 2 mg being combined with 2 or 3 mg of dienogest. After 26 active tablets, two placebo tablets are taken (Qlaira®).

Birth control pills with an extended dosing regimen

This birth control pill contains a pill blister containing 84 tablets consisting of 30 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol and 150 micrograms of levonorgestrel. 7 of the 84 pills contain 10 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol. The birth control pill is taken continuously and without a break. (Seasonique®)
